Fair Trade Yoghurt

Class 2 have been designing flavours for yoghurts as part of their work for Fair Trade fortnight. They  tasted different products to see which they preferred before making some of their own. All aspects of their own yoghurt had to be thought about: it had to healthy, contain Fair Trade ingredients, look appetising and taste great. They  also had to prepare advertising for their product.

Today we held the 'grand tasting' where all staff and pupils had to choose the best product. The winner was 'Berrylicious'

Cooking Pheasant at Forest School

Today at Forest School Class 2 cooked a pheasant.

First of all we had to collect a load of wood to make a raging fire. Next we got our fire going -we had to work hard as a team to keep it going. After that Sam, the youth worker who was helping us, showed us how you prepare pheasant.

1.First he plucked the pheasant

2.Next he let us feel the breast bone because you need to cut either side of the bone to get to the breast meat.

3.Then Sam cut the breast off the pheasant.

4.Next we put the pheasant on the fire and let it cook whilst everybody went and had some free time.

5.After 20 mins it was ready.

Once the pheasant was ready Mrs Allison called everybody back so we could try some of it. Everybody got a taste of the pheasant except Mrs Allison and Jacob because they are both vegetarians. It was delicious! It was a big surprise for everyone because when we were preparing the pheasant people didn’t like the look of it but everyone loved it. Some people said they could eat the whole lot!

Finally we had tidy up and soon we were ready to leave the forest.

I really enjoyed the morning- next time we are going to prepare the pheasant our selves!

Roman Life

P1000291

This term the whole school has been finding out about Roman life and culture. In class 1, we have learned about citizens and slaves. Citizens were freemen and women, who owned slaves, just as you might own a cat!

Julius Caesar was a leader of the Roman republic. Did you know that the month of July is named after him and the month of August is named after his great-nephew, Augustus Caesar? So now, our tenth month is October and our twelth month is December!!

Roman soldiers were called legionnaries. They wore flexible metal armour, helmets with face and neck guards and carried curved, oblong wooden shields. Working as a team, they would link shields above their heads, making an 'armadillo' cover to stop overhead missiles from injuring them.

When the Romans invaded and settled in Britain, they built stone villas, forts and defensive walls. They had proper plumbing, so they had baths, toilets and even central heating!!

Chinese New Year

School dinner today was a feast in celebration of the Chinese Year of the Dragon. Mrs Roullier cooked us sweet and sour chicken with noodles followed by toffee bananas and icecream. Some of us even had a go at eating it with chopsticks!

During the meal we were visited by Herbie the North Yorkshire catering services' mascot, who brought us all a fortune cookie. Many of the fortunes were very thought provoking and made us consider our actions and attitudes for the year ahead.

The Grumpy Sheep

This year's Christmas production was the Grumpy Sheep. Class1 took the leading roles and did extremely well learning all their lines. The event was enjoyed by parents and friends in a packed Village Hall.

New Animation

A couple of years ago we were involved in the production of a very successful animation about Leeds Pals with the professional animator David Bunting.

In September we were given the opportunity to work with David on another production. The basis for our animation was the recorded conversation of  two ladies from Ellingstring called Betty and Dorothy..

We have produced a number of slideshows to illustrate some of the things we had to do to create the animation.

Harvest Time

Our Gardening Club have been busy this week harvesting the produce grown in the school garden. We have had a bumper crop of apples this year which have used to make apple chutney and several tasty apple pies for lunch. We would love to hear what you grow in your gardens.
